Narrative Theories-Batman Begins

Propp Theory

Protagonist- Bruce Wayne as Kid and Adult, you know his is the protagonist as you see him in the first minute of the scene and it is focused on him.
Antagonist- The man that hits the plate out of Bruces Hand, you know that he is the Antagonist as he is very aggressive towards Bruce.  
Helper- The old man, you know that he is the helper as he guides Bruce through the prison and tells him what going on.
Princess- Rachel, you know that she will be the princess as she is best friends with the Protagonist.

Tudorov Theory

The opening scene to Batman Begins follows partly the theory of Tudorov as it starts with the scene in a Equilibrium as both Bruce and Rachel are both acting like normal children in till Bruce falls down a well this is were the Disequilibrium begins , in the first 3 minuets of the film we don't see the an attempted repair of this. The same format is seen in the second seen were Bruce is in the prison Equilibrium is shown at the start of the scene as nothing has gone wrong yet, then the Disequilibrium begins when the big man hits the plate out of Bruce's hand.

Barthes' Theory

There are two examples of the action device that Barthes speaks about, first is the part were Bruce Wayne falls down the well this means that an action has taken place that means something else needs to happen. The second action device was when the man knocks the plate out of his hand this triggers a large fight scene in the prison.
There are many connotation that you can make from the scene, for example the use of a chid Bruce at the start in =stead of the adult Bruce this means that we can connote that Bruce is venerable as even an Adult and his past comes back to haunt him often, from this you denote that a possible villain is going to come and get him that he already knows or that a possibly happen again.
